Frequently asked questions
Who is SEWPIT?
We are a group of individuals who have come together from various backgrounds with one common goal in mind, to find the truth. We go into every investigation with an open mind, but we set out to debunk as much as we can of the claims made by our clients. This way there is no doubt in our minds when we are finished with an investigation, we find the location is either not haunted or haunted. To make a great SEWPIT field investigator, we require our investigators have three qualities in them. First is common sense, next is the ability to be a critical thinker or problem solver if you will and finally to have a sliver of skepticism. Without skepticism, even a little bit, an investigator will not be able to look at the evidence objectively. We also educate our clients and the public to what we do and what the paranormal field is all about. We are by no means experts in the field; the field is still so unknown that no one really can call themselves an expert, but what we like to be known as is amateur scientific educators.
Does SEWPIT charge a fee for doing an investigation?
No. We never charge for our services; however, we do accept donations. We use the donations to help cut the cost with the upkeep of our equipment as well as purchasing newer, more state-of-the-art equipment.
Does SEWPIT provoke spirits like they do on TV?
No. We advocate restraint and respect for our client’s home or place of business. We understand that when we leave a particular place, we may never see it again. However, our clients must be there day after day. We never want to make a situation worse for our clients. Screaming and yelling at a spirit is not really helping, it can sometimes in the case of a true haunting make it worse. It is also very unprofessional. We may ask it to do something, like turn on a flashlight or move something to show us it is there, willing and able to communicate with us, but you will never see or hear us yelling.
Can I be there with SEWPIT during the investigation of my home or business?
Yes. We will never kick someone out of their own location, we are the guests. We ask that if you do decide to stay to participate in the investigation that you do not invite more people over. The evidence we are attempting to collect during an investigation can easily become contaminated due to excess talking, bodily noises as well as external environment noises. We will ask you to find a place for your children under the age of 15 to stay during the investigation, again to help alleviate against contamination and for safety.
Will SEWPIT keep my information confidential?
Yes. We will have you sign a form that will give you the option of what kind of information may be release regarding your case. For instance, you may agree to audio and video be released to the public, if evidence is found. Of course, we will do everything in our power to conceal your information. But, if someone you know sees a video or a photo of a part of a room and recognizes it, we cannot be held responsible. That is why we have you sign a release as to what is allowed to be released and what is not.
What can I expect when I contact SEWPIT?
Our Case Manager will contact you within 24 hours either by email or phone. You will be asked a series of questions to get more information about what you are experiencing. After our liaison obtains the information, we need and is not able to resolve the case at this point. The Case Manager will setup a time and date to do a walk-through of the location. In between the time you talk to our Case Manager and the walk-through, we would like you to get a notebook and document every time you experience any kind of activity. Write down what you experienced, the time of day, where and who was present if any during the activity. This way you can present that to the investigators during the walk-through. A walk-through entails meeting with two field investigators who will bring with them a small amount of equipment, voice recorder, digital camera and an EMF detector. They will ask to see exactly where the activity is being experienced so they may get some readings and demographics. This is where the pre-planning will take place regarding the investigation. They will determine if a full investigation is needed and how many investigators will need to be present. They will contact the Case Manager to setup a time and date for the full investigation. Most of our investigations are done at night, just because life is quieter at night than during the day.
Sometimes not every case requires a full investigation. We have found by doing these walk-throughs, we are able to find other reasons that can explain away the experiences, may they be environmental, chemical, structural or biological. We want you to understand it is not a waste of our time. We are here to help you get answers. This is also the best time to ask us questions as well.
What does a full investigation entail?
A full investigation is when SEWPIT as a team comes to your location. Our lead investigator will sit down with you and as you more questions than what was asked during the walk-through. The other team members will be splitting up the setup tasks. You will see a pair of field investigators walking around getting baseline reading of your home or business. This is when they collect the data about the electric magnetic field, temperature readings as well as marking any hazards the team will need to be aware of during lights out. The other members will be busy setting up the equipment in the areas discussed during the walk-through. You will see a voice recorder that will be recording everything going on prior to, during and after the investigation. Once the equipment is in place, the baselines reading has been taken; we will be ready to go lights out. It is than that you need to really decide if you are stay for the investigation or leaving. During the light out portion of the investigation, we will be conducting the investigation in the dark. The team will break up into teams to try and debunk reported activity, they will also be documenting any activity they experience.
A typical investigation lasts for about 3 to 4 hours, but if we are experiencing more activity, it can go longer. If you decide not to stay, we will be in contact with you if activity starts to increase and ask if we can stay longer. If we do stay longer, you are able to come back unless you decide to stay out longer as well. Once we wrap up the investigation, we will let you know when we are done. We will talk to you about what happened during the investigation, but we will not be able to fully disclose to you our findings until we go through all the evidence. This process unfortunately is the longest. It will take us up to six weeks to go through all the evidence and break down our report. It can take that long because every piece of equipment we use, we have to go through it in real time, then we have to break that down then present it to the rest of the team and create our report from there. We all work full-time jobs and have families, so life can get in the way of our investigative findings, so we apologize. We understand your feelings of urgency, and we do make every effort to get you the information you need, but sometimes life can get in the way. We will not forget about you; you just need to be patient with us.
